FUTURE PROJECTS

Neocortex Models for Athletes (NMA)

The intended goal of this project will be to design and to emulate neocortex models of athletes (NMA) using hierarchical reinforcement learning. The criteria used to design NMA is based on goals set by trainers/coaches for athletes in different sports. NMA will be tested using case based reasoning with the knowledge base already formed and evolving for different national sports.

The key responsibility of the position is to assess and to monitor multinational industries invested jointly with Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Brunei in order to embed entrepreneurship skills leading to university start-ups as graduate attributes.

The appointment is under Brunei Economic Development Board, Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei government which was offered on secondment from Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The key role is to identify, to execute and to monitor ICT industries as foreign direct investment to Brunei Darussalam which will allow to diversify the oil and gas led economy.

IntelliHealth Solutions started as a research enterprise based on four patents filed; one patent under WIPO, one in Malaysia, two in Brunei. As the founder of this university start-up, IntelliHealth Solutions signed the MoU with UMCH Technology Pvt Ltd, Malaysia in order to reach ASEAN nations. The expectation of this research enterprise jointly to expand whole ASEAN nations which covers 600 million population.

• Team Leader of Research Report Review Committee (2014-present)
This appointment is under Research & Innovation, University of Brunei. This committee membership is responsible to assess, to monitor and to report the progress of all internal, external and industrial grants holders every six months. Having submitted comprehensive progress reports by the principal investigators and leaders of research centers/labs to the research and innovation office every six months, the committee carries out this exercise.

• Graduate Studies Coordinator (2013-2014)
This appointment is directly reporting to the Vice Chancellor in order to promote graduate studies among graduates within Brunei, BORNEO and ASEAN region.

This appointment is directly reporting to the Vice Chancellor in order to design, improve and implement Computer Science curriculum.

• Member/ Campus Review: Reference Group, Monash University Sunway Campus (2005-2010)
Having established Monash University Sunway Campus in 1998 as an offshore campus of Monash University, Australia which is one of the 8 full fledge campuses with autonomy of awarding its own degrees. Upon joined in 2002, Pro-Vice Chancellor invited to be a member of campus review: reference group based on academic leadership held across all 8 campuses. Reference group was responsible to formulate new strategies to self-sustain Sunway Campus starting from 2008 when the Sunway Campus was completed 10 full years by then. Among them, the most successful model implemented was the establishing unique research centers to cater Malaysian needs by attracting funds from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

• Member/Steering group, strategic and sustainable academic development plan project under Higher Education Development Unit (HEDU), Monash University- Clayton Campus, Australia (2005-2010)
The key involvement of under this membership was to set up Virtual Interfacing Technology Adaptation Lab (VITAL) in order to introduce and conduct courses across campuses based on relevant industries from Malaysia and Australia. VITAL tools were implemented using Virtual Instrumentation and Virtual Reality tools based on the MoU signed with National Instrument (NI) and Phantom haptic devices.

• Coordinator of National Instrument (NI) and Monash University Sunway Campus
Key achievements were to establish full scale design laboratory across courses conducted at different faculties, to engage internship students with NI factory in Malaysia and to conduct research with different institutions in Malaysia, in particular Sports Biomechanics Centre of Malaysia.

• Founder Coordinator of MSc in Computer Science (1998-2002)
This appointment was under Post Graduate Institute of Sciences (PGIS) on secondment from the Uiversity of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. First ever MSc programme in Computer Science was introduced in Sri Lanka at the national level with the support of Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) – IT grant jointly with Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.

• Founder Coordinator of BSc in Computer Science (1990-1993)
This appointment was directly reporting to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Key achievements were the introduction of BSc in Computer Science general and special degree programmes.
