ABOUT ME

Dr. Gianluca Polgar obtained his Certificate of Proficiency in English, Cambridge in 1988. He got a High School Diploma Degree (Classical Lyceum) in 1989. He joined the Italian Army (Cavalry) in 1993-1995 as Second Lieutenant. He worked as a webdesigner and illustrator at the online newspaper RomaOne from 2000 to 2003. He graduated (Laurea Degree = BSc + MSc) at the Sapienza University of Rome in 2004. He obtained a PhD in Ecological Sciences at the Sapienza University of Rome in 2009, after having worked in several laboratories, including Italian universities (Sapienza, Padova, Milano Bicocca, Varese Insubria, Ca' Foscari of Venice) and other international institutions (Natural History Museum of London, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, University of Hormozgan Iran, National History Museum Leiden, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin, Civic Museum of Natural History of Genoa). From 2010 to 2013 he was Visiting Senior Lecturer in Biology, at the Institute of Biological Sciences, in the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. From 2013 to 2014 he was Research Fellow at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei, in collaboration with AP Dr. David Marshall. From 2014 he is Lecturer in the Environmental and Life Sciences Programme, at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Dr. Polgar is author of several scientific publications on the ecology and evolution of tropical wetlands, including 16 scientific papers on ISI international journals (including Nature Communications, Biology Letters, PLoS ONE, Marine Ecology Progress Series, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, Marine Biology, Journal of Fish Biology, Journal of Parasitology, Journal of Thermal Biology, The Raffles Bulletin of Zoology, Cybium, Wetlands Ecology and Management), and 12 chapters in scientific books (Nova Publishers, Salem Press, Poletto Editore). He offered several graduate and post-graduate courses during his teaching university positions, including Ichthyology, Animal Physiology, Animal Form and Function, Conservation and Management of Living Resources, Organisms and Environments, Research Methodology, Diversity of Life, Management and ecology of tropical coastal systems, Limnology. He co-supervised 8 BSc students, 3 Laurea degree students, and 2 PhD international students.
