Dr Shaikh Abdul Mabud

Dr Shaikh Abdul Mabud, who earned a PhD from the University of Cambridge, is currently Associate Professor of Islamic Spirituality, Ethics and Education at SOASCIS, UBD. He was Professor of Islamic Studies at The Muslim College, London, UK (2015) and Professor of Islamic Philosophy at Islamic College for Advanced Studies, London, UK (2005–2007). Prior to joining UBD he was Deputy Director General (1983–1999) of the Islamic Academy in Cambridge, UK and then he became its Director General in 1999. In his early academic career he taught Physics for ten years at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh and the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. His main areas of academic interest are: Western philosophies of education and their impact on the curriculum of Muslim countries; and the Islamic philosophy of education. He is the editor of Cambridge-based educational journal, Muslim Education Quarterly, which deals with the problems of Muslim education in various countries of the world. He is an author/editor of five books and more than eighty other publications on various aspects of Islamic education, science and religion. Dr Abdul Mabud is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA); a Life Fellow of Cambridge Philosophical Society; Member of the Steering Committee of the Peace Education Standing Commission (PESC) which is a branch of the World Conference on Religion and Peace (WCRP), New York, USA; Corresponding Editor of PANORAMA: International Journal of Comparative Religious Education and Values, published from Germany; and a Member of the International Advisory Board for the Journal of Islamic and Arabic Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia). He has visited many countries of the world and delivered papers and lectures at international conferences. He was one of the organisers of the 7th and the 8th World Conferences on Muslim Education.
