Dr Sakander Hayat is an Assistant Professor in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, UBD. His research interests lie in algebraic combinatorics, applied combinatorics, mathematical chemistry, discrete mathematics, discrete applied mathematics. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor in Mathematics at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, where his primary task was to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students and perform any administrative tasks assigned by the institute.

Dr Sakander graduated from Govt. College University Faisalabad (GCUF), completing the 4-year Mathematics BS degree in 2012. He was recipient of a Gold Medal (2012) awarded by GCUF on securing the top position in both morning and evening sessions of BS (H) batch 2008–2012. He then obtained his MPhil in Mathematics from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan in 2014. He was recipient of a Presidential Gold Medal (2014) awarded by NUST on securing the first position in MPhil batch 2012–2014. He completed his PhD in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jacobous Hendricus Koolen from University of Science and Technology of China, P.R. China. He was awarded the Outstanding International Student Award for the year 2017 by China Scholarship Council (CSC). His PhD thesis explored spectral graph theory in context with graphs having few distinct eigenvalues with respect to different graph-theoretic matrices.
