Dr Mas Rina Wati is a senior lecturer at PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. She taught molecular genetics to medical, biomedical and other healthcare professional students. She had been a programme leader for graduate studies and had also been in other administrative post during the early years of the institute.
She obtained her Ph D in molecular microbiology at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland. She then did a 5 year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Singapore where she started to develop interest in working with the mammalian system. It was at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Queensland, Australia that she had the opportunity to work with the breast cancer gene, BRCA, when she did a sabbatical for year. He research interest is currently on genetics of breast cancer looking specifically at the BRCA genes in Brunei breast cancer. She is also interested in other cancers such as colorectal and lung cancers and believe that translational research is the way forward for improving clinical services and human health and well-being in Brunei. She has publications in internationally-peer reviewed journals and has presented at conferences and symposiums, both national and international.
