Awang Agong Lupat is a nursing lecturer at the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. He started his nursing career at the PAPRSB College of Nursing in 1991 and worked at the Emergency Department RIPAS Hospital before continue his undergraduate study at Middlesex University, United Kingdom from 1997 to 2000. He took up the position of education officer at the PAPRSB College of Nursing until 2008 and further his study at University of Southampton and awarded Master of Science in advanced clinical practice. In 2010, he joined Universiti Brunei Darussalam with the merging of college of nursing and institute of medicine which is now known as PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences. His teaching background covers area of mental health nursing, clinical simulation, and evidence based practice. In 2016, enrolled in a PhD in Nursing (part-time) and his research area of interest are mental health and neurological disease. Awang Agong is currently involved in research projects at UBD such as “Developing a database for selected neurological diseases in Brunei Darussalam – Including an epidemiological Study”, the Brunei Context” and “Psychosocial Impact of Infertility Among Male and Female In Brunei Darussalam: A Qualitative Study”. He is also an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Instructor at PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences. Awarded with the medal PIKB (Meritorious Service Medal) in 2016 from His Majesty government in recognition of his service to the country.

GRANT DETAILS

Received BRC grant (UBD/BRC/3) for a project entitled: Developing a database for selected neurological diseases in Brunei Darussalam – Including an epidemiological Study. This project is a collaboration between Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Krankenhaus Nordwest, Frankfurt, Germany. The objectives of the study are 1.Developing a Brunei national Database for neurological diseases, in particular for stroke and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis 2.Identifying stroke and multiple sclerosis cases by door-to-door survey so that prevalence, incidence, mortality data can be estimated for the study population. The study completed in June 2016 with the submission of the final report.
